Arogya Karnataka- Universal Health Coverage

The Government of Karnataka has taken big step towards providing universal health coverage to the people of Karnataka in its cabinet meeting on August 28th, 2017. The Government of Karnataka was implementing several tertiary & secondary care schemes through Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust since 2009. The decision was taken to vertical integration of the existing programmes and horizontal expansion of the schemes through single umbrella called "Universal Health Coverage" or "Arogya Karnataka".

Why UHC?

Earlier many schemes, different packages, different target beneficiaries was making it difficult to implement the schemes effectively. Also many schemes were causing difficulties to educate the people and to handle the schemes effectively. It is planned to merge the existing schemes viz. Vajapayee Arogyasri, Yashaswini, Jyothi Sanjivini, Mukhyamantri Santhwana Harish Scheme, Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, Rajiv Arogya Bhagya, Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana, RBSK etc. The convergence of the scheme will help the State to avoid inter scheme duplicates and overlapping of services.

Eligible Families under UHC Karnataka

UHC will cover all the 1.4 crore families in Karnataka and all the families are eligible to get covered under the scheme regardless of income level. The population is divided into 2 categories, Category A is fully subsidised where as Category B approximately 30 lakh families have to pay 70% co-payment at the time of hospitalisation. Category A consists of priority house holds BPL card holders, Farmers, unorganised sector workers, members of cooperative societies. government employees accredited media persons, elected representatives who will be provided free health card.

UHC Card- Aadhar Linked

Under the scheme Aadhar Linked UHC card will be issued to the individuals. The beneficiary can avail the services by producing either Aadhar card or UHC card in empanelled hospital. The existing package rates will continue for certain time period later KPME defined rates will be adapted. Every individual will get health card in karnataka at the time of hospitalisation.

Register under Arogya Karnataka

The enrolment is done at the time of OPD registration itself in the government hospitals. The individual has to produce his Aadhar Card & Ration Card to get new Arogya Karnataka card. Download sample Arogya Karnataka Declaration form below.

Both secondary and tertiary care is covered under the scheme.

1. More than 1000 secondary procedures

2. More than 500 Tertiary care procedures

The initial treatment will be facilitated in the Government hospitals, Medical Colleges and the remaining services will be purchased from private hospitals.
