A lot of people prefer deciding for themselves what to eat and not what to eat. Often, the decisions that people make about what they eat is out of ignorance of what the body needs. And in some instances, people find it difficult to control their craving of pleasure and sweetness, even when they are fully aware that the food is not healthy.

All these might make granola seem like a healthy food but the thing that people do not know about is the high amount of calories and sugar in it. One bowl of granola can have more than 1,000 calories which is too much for one person. Apart from that, most of the store-bought granola contains unhealthy oils and fats and it is packed with fillers and other unnecessary ingredients which are harmful to the body.

Soup is a must-have especially during winter season and these days it comes in cups, cans and drinkable bottles which are easy to pick and go.

Canned soups are convenient but just like canned food; they contain fat and sodium which make them the unhealthiest foods on earth. Even the ones that seem to have less sodium and fat are still not good for the body.

Most canned soups have around 400 mg of sodium per a single cup and this is too much for one person. Canned food is also often associated with healthy problems such as; strange weakness, bloating and high blood pressure.

BPA is a great concern too in canned soups. BPA is a chemical found in cans and it affects hormone production and it can increase the risk of getting some cancers.

This is meat that has been preserved by canning, drying, smoking, salting or curing. It includes foods like:

Ham, bacon

Salami, sausages, hot dogs

Beef jerky, dried meat

When meat is processed, it loses a lot of nutrients. Actually, the people who eat processed meat a lot are susceptible to diseases such as colon cancer and diabetes. This is due to the high amount of cholesterol, salt and fat which is found in the processed meat.

4. Fat-free or low fat yogurt

Low fat or fat-free yogurt is dangerous to the body and should never be consumed at all. Most yogurts can have low fat but the amount of sugar in them is extremely high. One six-once yogurt can have more than fifteen grams of sugar and this excess amount of sugar lowers immunity and prevents proper digestion.

5. Microwave popcorn

Microwave popcorn is a convenience food that comprises of unpopped popcorn in an amplified, sealed paper bag. This popcorn is supposed to be heated in a microwave oven. Besides the dried corn, the bags also contain oil with properly saturated fat that solidifies at room temperature. The paper bag also contains some seasonings, usually salt and artificial or natural flavourings.

Popcorn may look healthy and convenient but it is among the foods that must be avoided. Sodium is dangerous to the body and microwave popcorn contains a lot of it. The microwave popcorn also contains diacetyl which is not healthy either. Popcorn bags are dangerous as well because they have a type of acid that is associated with fertility and cancer.

6. Soda


One bottle of soda can contain more than ten teaspoons of sugar. High consumption of sugary drinks is associated with obesity. Apart from that, it can also lead to pancreatic cancer and diabetes which are both serious illnesses.

Soda also contains artificial sweeteners, mostly aspartame. Aspartame is linked to so many health problems such as brain tumors, seizures, emotional disorder, diabetes and multiple sclerosis.

Also, there is no nutritional value in soda. Leave alone the fact that soda has many harmful effects, there is nothing positive to outweigh its negative effects. Soda is a just an unnatural substance that is harmful to the body.

7. French Fries and Potato Chips

French fries are potatoes which have been cut into strips, soaked, bloated dry then deep fried to become crisp golden brown. Potato chips on the other hand are also small slices of potato which have been fried until they are dry, hard and crisp.

Both French fries and potato chips are served as a snack, appetizer or side dish. Chips and fries might both seem good for the body considering their sources. However, the shocking thing is that they have many calories. Potatoes in their natural state have many nutrients but upon frying, some substances are created which are dangerous to the body. It is recommended to boil potatoes if you want to eat them. You can also opt for carrots or nuts instead of French fries and potato chips.

8. Margarine

Margarine is formed using vegetable oils which definitely implies that it has unsaturated good fats, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These fats help in lowering low-density lipoprotein or bad cholesterol when replaced with saturated fat.

However, not all margarines are created the same way. Some margarine contains a lot of trans-fat, only a few margarine products contain small amounts of trans-fat. The more solid the margarine is the more the trans-fat in it. Stick margarine often has more trans-fat compared to tub margarine.

Trans-fat is a dangerous kind of fat that can quickly increase the cholesterol level of the body. It can also destroy the blood vessels walls. Trans-fat also reduces high-density lipoprotein or good cholesterol levels.
